THE PHANTOM OF THE PARADISE. Brian De Palma, 1974.

One of my all-time favourite movies is called “The phantom of the paradise”.  A work of art directed and written by Brian De Palma.

“The Paradise” is a nightclub owned by a famous 70′s producer named Swan. The film tells the story of an unfortunate hard-working composer called Winslow Leach, who gets his work stolen by the heartless tycoon. Determined to get revenge he haunts the discotheque at night, in the aim of sabottaging the “Juicy Fruits” ‘ premiere. The latter being the band Swan is willing to launch to stardom.

The whole story is a parody of both “The phantom of the opera” and “Faust”. The director mixed the musical genre along with a comedy and a thriller. The result is a unique and unforgettable motion picture which questions the morality of the music industry. For the anecdote, this movie has influenced the makink of one of Bob Sinclar’s videoclip: “Fell for you”.

Any comparison with Phil Spector’s life allowed!
